Trip Participant's Responsibilities
Canoeing and kayaking are potentially dangerous activities. It is entirely the individual's responsibility to determine whether he or she has adequate paddling skills, and adequate clothing and equipment, to safely participate in a particular club trip on a particular body of water under the conditions that exist at the time of the trip. Participants should consult with the trip coordinator for advice on this decision.
A trip coordinator may deny participation to any individual if he or she believes that:
(a) the individual's experience or paddling skills are not adequate for reasonable safety under the conditions that are expected for the trip; or
(b) the individual's equipment or clothing are not adequate; or
(c) the individual's behavior is likely to present a safety risk to the individual or to other group members.
Although the trip coordinator may deny participation to any individual, the coordinator's agreement to allow an individual to participate does not constitute endorsement of the individual's skills, etc., and it remains the individual's responsibility to determine whether he or she may safely participate.
During a trip, participants are expected to cooperate with the trip coordinator in all matters of safety, and to stay with the group unless they notify the trip coordinator that they are leaving the group.
During a trip, a trip coordinator may recommend that an individual not paddle a particular stretch of water, but the coordinator's failure to make such a recommendation does not necessarily imply that it is safe for the individual to paddle that particular stretch of water. It is the individual's own responsibility to determine whether he or she may safely paddle a particular stretch of water.
A member may bring a non-member guest on a club trip by permission of the trip coordinator. The member assumes responsibility for the guest's safety and conduct. Members and guests must respect reasonable standards of decency and discipline for their behavior at club trips and other club events.
Members and guests are expected to sign a MUTUAL AGREEMENT FOR PROTECTION FROM LIABILITY form as a condition for participation in club trips.
