Topic : Trip Coordnator T shirts

It seems that not many T/C shirts were distributed this year. The shirts are made of a wicking type of material. This is a change form the cotton material of past years.

If any trip coordinator did not pick up a t shirt at the fall supper, please contact me. I will make sure you get one.

Topic : RAIN
Looks like the rivers are going to come up one last time before snow flies! I am out of town this weekend but if anyone is interested in Bangor area local paddling (Marsh, Soui, Kenduskeag or Orono park and play) give me a call next week. I'm a student at Orono right now so I can paddle almost anytime (classes can be skipped) Plus I can give you accurate flow info if your not from the area.

Topic : A lost boater, a lost friend
To all who have paddled with Corey Obrien of Hampden:
If you were previously unaware, I'm sorry to do this through an internet forum but if you ever have paddled with Corey I am regretful to inform you that Corey died in a long boarding accident this fall. His parents truly appreciated his love for the outdoors and this is why I am encouraging you all, if you have ever paddled with Corey, please contact is parents Sue and Paul Obrien and express your condolences. If you have trouble finding a contact for them please email me at Ryan.Gerry@umit.maine.edu. Thank you all and much love from our dear friend Corey.

Topic : Kennebec River Clean Up Oct 17 & 19
Come help with some end of season river clean up on the Kennebec River next weekend October 17 & 19, Friday and Sunday. We will be removing some strainers, cleaning up some shoreline areas, and improving the Ballfield take out area among many things. If you can help one day, both days, an hour, or just paddle with us Saturday that would be super. Yeah did I say we are going to paddle Saturday if anyone is interested. The colors are awesome up here so if you want to do something next weekend giving back to the river is always a great idea. Any interested parties email me, Chris Colin, at ccolin05Šunity.edu and I will fill you in on logistics and starting times for Friday and Saturday.

Look forward to seeing you on the river!!!

Topic : Kennebec Gorge @ Minimum Flow on October 5th
Several of us are trying to do an informal trip on the Kennebec on Sunday, October 5th. We'll begin early (no later than 9am in the water) at Harris Dam to beat the release, paddle through the gorge at minimum flow (a "must-see" if you've never seen it at low water...let's just say Cathedral Eddy is aptly-named), then some can wait just below Magic Falls for the water to rise and others can continue on to Carry Brook and wait there. We'll all paddle out from Carry Brook at high water. This is a class II-III trip.

Topic : Renting a Kayak
I'll be visiting ME from Colorado next week. I was hoping to get a few runs in on the Penobscott, Kennebec and Dead and have been searching and calling outifyyers to see about kayak rentals.

I can not find a boat to rent in that area (the Forks, Bingham). Any advice?

Topic : Flat Water
Another new member;

I'm on "staycation" through 9/27 and want to do some flat water and sea kayaking
within driving distance of Orono/Bangor area. I'd welcome trip suggestions of any length and would love to talk to anyone who'd like to go along.
I just did a 6 hr, 17 mi. trip from our camp at Pushaw to my home on the Stillwater in Orono and may do it again at peak foliage, if anyone's interested.
Also, I have a rowing shell and would welcome hearing from anyone who might like to get together for a row.

Thanks,
Todd Burpee, Orono

Topic : Anyone daytripping from Bangor area to the Dead on Saturday
If anyone is doing a daytrip run on the Dead for the 3500 release this Saturday from the Bangor area, I'd love to carpool.

I'm a pretty solid Class III boater who just moved to Orono from NC for work. (I'm from Maine originally, but I've been in NC for 10 year).

So if you're paddling the Dead this weekend, and don't mind showing a newcomer down the river, drop me a line.

Thanks
-James
